Clara Foster joined Aevitas Creative Management in 2023 after spending time at HarperCollins, Creative Media Agency, and The Blair Partnership.
Clara works closely with her writers on editorial, and is always keen to find voice-led, character-driven works that engage with the world around us even as they transport us far away. She represents adult fiction, YA, and select non-fiction, and is particularly looking to partner with writers who are looking to build a career from their words, wherever that might take them.
Her fiction tastes tend towards the accessible literary and upmarket, often with a strong female focus, as well as genre titles in the fantasy, speculative, and historical arenas. Anything written with beautiful prose, a high-stakes plot, and/or a folkloric, legendary, or mythical grounding is likely to be a good bet. In non-fiction, she finds herself drawn to expert-led narratives which sit at the juncture of either women, politics, and culture, or women, politics, and science. In the YA/Crossover space, she wants to see clever world-building, emotional (and flawed) characters, and preferably a romantic sub-plot—or main plot. Here however she would like to find writing from authors who push the boundaries even further: new twists on old tropes, high concepts (an idea you can pitch in a sentence), and perspectives we rarely get to see.
Recent favourite titles include The Safekeep by Yael Van Der Wouden, You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty by Akwaeke Emezi, Strong Female Character by Fern Brady, and Swordcrossed by Freya Marske.
