Laura Cappelle is an art sociologist, journalist and associate researcher at CERLIS (Centre de recherche sur les liens sociaux). A dance specialist, in 2020 she coordinated Nouvelle Histoire de la danse en Occident (Seuil). Dance critic in Paris for the Financial Times, she also writes a column on French theater for the New York Times and is a regular contributor in the Guardian, Dancing Times and Dance Magazine. She defended a sociology thesis on choreographic creation processes in repertory companies at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle - Paris 3 in 2018, that was published in 2024 by CNRS Éditions: Créer des ballets au XXIème siècle. The graphic novel adaptation of her first book, Une histoire dessinée de la danse, illustrated by Thomas Gilbert, was published in September 2024.
