Emily Sweet joined Aevitas having established her own independent agency, Emily Sweet Associates, in 2015. With a broad and dynamic client list that ranges from academics and social historians to chefs and TikTok superstars, her authors regularly win and feature on a diverse range of prize shortlists – including the Fortnum & Mason Food and Drink Awards and the Guild of Food Writers Awards, through to the Walter Scott Prize and the Victor Turner Prize for Ethnographic Writing– as well as The Sunday Times bestseller list.
An Oxford history graduate, Emily focuses primarily on non-fiction and enjoys taking a proactive, personal and collaborative approach to working with authors. With ten years’ experience as an editor in UK trade publishing houses (Random House, Bloomsbury), she has a strong sense of what appeals to publishers and consumers, as well as a detailed and thorough editorial eye.
Emily has always represented a significant number of food and drink authors. In addition to her agenting/publishing network, Emily has great knowledge and understanding of the food landscape, thanks to her previous career in hospitality. Beyond restaurants, she has excellent food industry contacts, including chefs, restauranteurs, stylists, food writers and restaurant & food PR companies.
Emily particularly looks for exciting, original and useful cookery and lifestyle books, as well as innovative storytelling in the areas of history, memoir, biography, current affairs and topical non-fiction.
